As you may have already noticed, it takes a bit of effort to drive high volume traffic to your blog. In fact, it takes a plan, goals, and the patience to test various strategies to build a high-traffic blog. Here are a few ideas to help you build your blog’s traffic.

Publish Often

The more content you have, the more visitors you will have. This strategy works for a number of reasons. It gives visitors a reason to come back. It also helps generate a better page ranking with the search engines. Better page ranking generally results in more traffic.

Additionally, if you’re linking to your new blog posts from social networking sites, then you’ll have more interaction and links which will generate traffic. Finally, the more content you have, the more folks will be interested in linking to your site. More incoming links also translates to more traffic.

Grab Attention

Use catchy headlines that grab attention. There are a few secrets to attention-grabbing headlines.

They include:

* State a benefit
* Use numbers and statistics
* Make it newsworthy using words like “new,” “introducing,” or “announcing”
* Make a big promise
* Use a “reasons why” headline – For example, “10 Reasons Why Your Blog Isn’t Making Money.”
* Pique curiosity

Make Subscribing Easy

Have you ever had to hunt to figure out how to subscribe to a blog? That’s not good. Make sure your readers don’t have to hunt either. Use plug-ins to add multiple subscription options. Make sure the RSS buttons are prominently displayed in at least one area of your blog.

Market It

Market your blog. Use proven and effective marketing tactics like social networking and article marketing. With social networking you can create a profile or page for your blog and post teasers with links to each new blog post. Article marketing is the practice of writing articles and submitting them to article directories. Include a link to your blog in your article to drive traffic.

Email

Email marketing is another great way to drive traffic and build an audience. Write a report or ebook and give it away in exchange for your reader’s email address. Send your email list weekly updates with information that is on your blog along with information that isn’t. For example, you might write an email every Friday that recaps or highlights your week’s blog posts and then provides a new article that only subscribers receive.

There are many ways to drive traffic to your blog and build a large following. The underlying key to any successful blog is an abundance of high quality content. Start there, then add traffic techniques and strategies and watch your traffic grow.

Affiliate marketing is alive and well. Many people all around the world from all walks of life are making a great living as affiliate marketers. You can, too.

Affiliate marketing is the business of promoting other people’s products and services. You promote them, not sell them. Each time you successfully promote a product you earn a commission.

For example, let’s say that you’re an affiliate for an insurance company. You might write articles about how to find good insurance. In the articles you would include a link to the insurance company you’re affiliated with. When your readers click the link and buy insurance from that company, you earn a commission.

Step One: Make a List of Interests and Passions

Products and services from just about every industry and niche have affiliate programs. This makes it easy for you to find ones that match your interests. And that’s the first step. Decide what industry or topic you want to focus on. Start with a list of your interests and passions. You don’t have to be ultra-knowledgeable about the topic but you do want to be interested in it. You’re going to be creating a lot of content about the topic so it helps to be interested in it.

Step Two: Make a List of Affiliate Programs

The next step is to take a look at your list of interests. If they’re not prioritized, go ahead and rank the top five. Then begin to look for quality affiliate programs to participate with. Don’t sign up just yet. Make a note of the programs.

Review how they pay and how much they pay. Also, if you have access to their resources, take a look at what they provide. Some affiliate programs provide you with an affiliate ID and that’s about it. Others provide you with advertisements, articles, and other marketing materials.

Go through the top items on your list and compare which topics have the best affiliate programs. It’s important that you affiliate with products and services you respect and trust. If your readers have a bad experience with someone you recommend, you’ll lose their trust and in the age of social networking that can affect other readers as well.

Step Three: Make a Choice and Create a Plan

You may also want to take a look at how much competition you have. Some niches have a lot of competition. The more competition there is, the more work you’ll have to do to gain traffic and attention. That’s not always a bad thing but it’s something to consider before you choose your niche. You can use keyword research tools to compare demand and supply.

Once you have your list of priority topics and a list of relevant affiliate products or services, it’s time to decide. What topic are you going to focus on?

The foundation of any affiliate business is content. So once you have made a decision about your topic, the next step is to create a content plan. What content will you write? When will you publish it?

Finally, you’re ready to create your website and start publishing content. It’s also the time to start applying to those affiliate programs you’re interested in representing. It’s a good idea to have content on your site before you apply so affiliate managers can confidently approve you as a representative of their company.

As a freelancer you’ll likely have moments when you wish you had turned down a job. Sometimes it’s difficult to know if a client project is right for you. Being able to choose the best suited jobs ensures you have a more successful business. Here’s how to select the best suited jobs.

Know Your Strengths

Sometimes a job doesn’t go well simply because it’s not suited to your strengths. That means the project will likely be a constant challenge. You’ll work harder and longer to complete it and end up essentially lowering your hourly value. Yet when you work on a project that speaks to your strengths you finish on time, the client is happy, and you earn a loyal customer.
Additionally, jobs that suit your strengths don’t adversely affect your morale. You’re able to maintain a positive mindset. This is key for long-term success.

Know What Your Ideal Client/Project Looks Like

Write down what your ideal projects and clients look like. What makes them good projects or clients? For example, if you’re a writer, do you prefer business to consumer writing projects? Do you prefer to work with men or women? Do you like high pressure turnaround projects or do you prefer ongoing projects?

Make a list or create a paragraph description of what types of projects you like and perform well on. Then, when you have a choice to take a job or to pass, you can refer to your list to help you decide.

Take a Look at Your Schedule

Sometimes it’s very easy to say yes to a job even when you don’t have the time to get it done properly. The result is that you either get very stressed and feel burnt out, or you complete the project but it’s not your best work. Make sure you have the time and energy to complete any project you commit to. It can be difficult to say no to a project, especially when you want to earn clients; however, saying no may be the better decision.

As a freelancer it often takes time and some few hard-learned lessons to learn which jobs are the best ones to take and which to pass on. Don’t hesitate to say no. All freelance jobs are not good jobs. You’ll find the right ones. You’ll find great clients. Work hard, market your business and know what you want.

Video has become a mainstream content source. More and more business website owners are using video to connect, communicate and of course to sell. If you’ve ever attempted to create your own business videos, you know that there’s a learning curve.

To create professional videos you need a well-written script with a clear topic and objective. You also need a clear speaking voice, a good camera, a well-lit space to film and a good editing tool. Top that off and you may need additional technologies to embed, upload, compress and share your videos.

It may all sound a bit overwhelming. However, once you learn the ins and outs of video production it’s much easier. And having the right tools and technology at your disposal can make the job much easier. One of those helpful tools and technologies is QuickTime Pro.

Freelancing is a wonderful way to make a living. However, because you rely on client work to pay the bills, it can also be an uncertain lifestyle. Some months may be high income months. Others may be a bit of a struggle. If you can make more money each month, it’s easier to save and survive the slow times. Here are a few ways to increase your monthly income.

#1 Consult

Chances are you’re already lending a helping hand to your clients. Why not charge for your consulting services and earn a higher monthly income? For example, if you’re a web designer your clients may ask a number of questions about organizing a website, design, and what software and technologies you recommend. Charge a consulting fee and make money by helping your customers build better websites and businesses.

#2 Affiliate

Do you have products or services that you absolutely love? Do you find that you’re often recommending services or products to others? Why not earn a commission from those recommendations? You can include a list of recommended products and services on your website or blog. You can also write articles or reviews and link to your affiliate products.

#3 Referral Program

If you don’t have a consistently full schedule, consider creating a referral program. Reward your existing customers for sending new customers to you. For example, you might give a customer a credit toward your services for each new customer they send your way. You can also create an affiliate program and actually pay people a commission when they send you new clients.

#4 Add Services

Another way to boost your monthly income is to expand your services. For example, if you offer website design you might also consider offering website content. Now, you don’t have to actually write the content. You could outsource it to a provider. For example, you charge $25 per article and pay $15 per article. You make $10 per article simply for facilitating and providing a full website package.

#5 Advertising

In addition to promoting affiliate products or services on your site, you might also sell advertising space. You can sell ad space on your website and in your newsletter if you have one.

#6 Membership Program

A membership program provides you with a consistent monthly income. It helps you make more money each month. Your prospects and customers will become members because it provides them with a discount. It also provides them with consistency. For example, if you’re a freelance blogger you might offer a monthly membership where each client receives 25 blogs a month at a discounted rate when they sign up for and agree to automatic payments.

If you’re looking for ways to boost your monthly income and aren’t ready or willing to increase your rates, consider one or more of these six tips. They’re tried and true.

Want to grow your business? Most people do. Unfortunately, many people rely on their own initiatives and strengths to grow their business. There is an ongoing trend, however, for businesses to turn to crowdsourcing in order to grow.

What Is Crowdsourcing?

As defined by Wired Magazine, “Crowdsourcing is the act of sourcing tasks traditionally performed by specific individuals to an undefined large group of people or community through an open call.”

A very simple example is to ask friends and followers on a social networking site to help you create a logo. You’ll have people working together to offer suggestions and solutions immediately.

Also, if you’ve participated on social networking sites you’ve probably had people ask you to like their Facebook page and to share it with others. Or you’ve had people ask you to retweet a link or post. This is an example of crowdsourcing. You’re asking the masses to help you grow your business.

So How Do You Grow Your Business with Crowdsourcing?

First, think about the various ways you can grow your business. These include:

* Marketing
* Content
* Fundraising
* Product development
* Website traffic
* Branding

Second, you’ll want to think about your crowdsourcing resources. As you can see from the earlier examples, social networking is often the key to success. That’s where you can reach large groups of people. It’s also the best place for any effort to pick up momentum quickly. Word can spread on Facebook across the country in a matter of minutes.

Do you have a large network of friends and followers? Are you currently active on social networking sites? It doesn’t have to be Facebook. Social sites like YouTube are very powerful too.

Third, consider your goals. What do you want to accomplish first? For example, do you need a lot of content for your website? Ask for submissions or guest blog posts from your friends and followers. Make it a contest and ask readers to vote on the best blog posts.

If you want to use the power of the crowd to develop a product, ask for input. Publish surveys, questionnaires or ask for beta testers.

The power of the crowd is immense. You can use it to grow your business in a number of ways. Instead of paying a product development team or hiring a focus group, you can now go directly to the source and ask your prospects to contribute. And it doesn’t cost a thing. Consider your goals and your resources, then take action.

HubPages are essentially free web pages. As a hubber, you sign up for an account and begin creating your hub pages. It’s a lot like creating a blog....

HubPages are essentially free web pages. As a hubber, you sign up for an account and begin creating your hub pages. It’s a lot like creating a blog. However there are many differences too. To be a successful hubber there are a few keys to success.

Plan

What is your hub going to be about? Who will read your hub and why? You may need to do a bit of research at this point. The more specific your hub topic, the better. For example, a hub page on coffee makers may be too general. However a hub page on budget coffee makers might be more successful.

The secret to attracting loyal readers and followers is to appeal to a niche topic. Become the expert on that niche topic and provide a wealth of information. Consider doing a bit of keyword research during the planning phase as well. Use the free online keyword tools to help you brainstorm a niche. Then use the information provided to choose a niche topic that has high demand.

Plan how you’re going to monetize your hubs too. The way most hubs make money is through AdSense, so keywords can be important. They also make money with affiliate marketing or to promote products you sell on Amazon or eBay.

Write

The foundation of a hub, in fact the foundation of any online website or blog, is content. In the case of most hub pages that means articles. Create a content plan so that each hub page you create has a specific purpose, goal and topic. Make sure the goal and topic match your monetization choice.

For example, if you’re going to drive traffic to your products on Amazon, then the topic of the hub needs to be relevant.

Inform and Entertain

Writing is important to the success of your hub pages. You don’t need to be an exceptional writer; however, your content does need to be interesting and valuable. Share your personality. Write conversationally. And use interesting headlines and subheadings to attract attention. People rate, share and print your hub pages. The more interesting and valuable your content is, the better your hub pages will do.

Photos and images are another way to add interest to your hub pages. Finally, if you have more than one hub page, link to your other hub pages to create flow. For example, if you have a hub page on buying a budget coffee maker, you might want to also have a hub page on how to make your coffee maker last. And another on how to make great coffee at home. Link and group the pages for better results.

HubPages are a great way to make money online. They’re free. You can write on topics you love and know. And you can share your information with the world.

Content is the foundation of the internet. A few years ago that meant writing content. It meant articles, blog posts, reports, case studies and so on. Today video content is growing. As a business owner you can take advantage of this visual medium to grow your business. Of course the more professional your videos are, the better your results.

Lighting

The lighting in your video is important. If your viewers cannot see you clearly, they won’t watch. To avoid shadows and a too dark video, don’t sit directly in the light of a window. Instead, have a soft light directed toward your face.

Preparation Is Key

Write or outsource your script first. Winging it is a sure way to an unprofessional video. Make sure you know what you want to say and how you want to say it before you hit the record button on your camera.

Write Well

Make sure your video is interesting. Any good video will be a lot like a good article or blog post. It’ll focus on a specific topic. It’ll grab your viewer’s attention right away. Your video will also offer value and include a call to action.

Make sure you have a purpose for your video before you write it. What do you want to accomplish and what action do you want viewers to take once they’ve watched your video?

Practice

Do a practice run first. Read your script aloud a few times and consider recording it so you can test the lighting, sound, camera angle and content. Practice using note cards or bullet points as your cues.

Editing

Edit your video and add any background audio. You will likely want to trim out the end and the beginning, and add a watermark with the URL of your website. Ideally, you’ll have no more than eight minutes of video when you’re finished. Shorter videos perform better than the long ones.

Your Call to Action

The call to action is one of the most important parts of a YouTube video. Make sure your call to action supports your goal. Don’t hesitate to mention it half way through the video and also at the end.

How to Dress

Finally, don’t forget to dress the part. Make sure you’re dressed appropriately and professionally. Think about your audience and how they will respond to your attire. Also take a look at the things they can see in your video.

Personal mementos, knick knacks, and artwork may not seem like much to you but your viewers may have an opinion. Don’t distract them by the background. Help them focus on you and your message by eliminating any background items. Creating a professional video isn’t difficult. However, it does require some time and advance planning.

An interesting logo is often one of the keys to brand recognition. It’s great if someone can see your logo and immediate feel connected to you and your business. That’s tremendously powerful. Businesses both small and large can benefit from creating an interesting logo. Here are some tips and strategies to help you do just that.

Relevance

What is your industry? The first thing to consider when you’re creating a logo is that the images, colors and fonts you use all need to be relevant to your industry. Imagine the logo for a technical company using an artistic font. It just wouldn’t make sense.

Attention Grabbing

Your logo will ideally grab your prospect’s attention immediately – in a good way. There are shocking and sometimes awful logos that grab your attention. However, generally that’s not the goal. You want to make a strong positive impact. Eye catching simply means that it stands out from the other logos in your industry and on your website and marketing materials.

Easy to Read

You might think this would be an obvious element to an interesting logo. Yet many logos are downright difficult to read. There are many factors that play a role in readability. They include the font and also the font size. Also, the background color and the color of the lettering are important. For example, yellow lettering on an orange background could be very difficult for most people to read.

Simple

An interesting logo doesn’t need to be complicated. In fact, visually complicated images are often ignored. Simple, strong and clear logos tend to perform much better than trying to convey a complicated message.

Brand Image

Also consider your brand image. Ideally your logo will match your brand image. For example, if you’re a company that represents happiness then you will ideally choose colors and images that support that brand. A gray logo with black lettering doesn’t convey happiness.

Memorable

Finally, an interesting logo is memorable. Think about the logos that are forever embedded in your mind. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Nike, Google, Harley Davidson, MTV, Gucci, Target, and Starbucks are all memorable logos that you can probably envision without too much effort. These logos are simple, memorable and they relate to the company’s brand and personality. In fact, they contribute to it.

You can create your own logo with a little time and effort. There are very useful design programs online and many of them are free. If you’re struggling to create your own business logo, consider hiring a professional.

HubPages are essentially hosted web pages. Signing up is free and it’s a great tool to make money. As a “Hubber” you write and publish pages. These pages are essentially articles or long pages of content on a specific topic. For example, you might write a page on how to make fajitas.

The key to success on HubPages is to write great content. How do you know if it is great content? Well, HubPages has measures in place. These measures include the ability for readers to:

* Tweet
* Like
* Vote up
* Vote down
* Share
* Print
* Follow

Many of these elements contribute to what’s called hub karma. You essentially earn points for quality content. As your points increase, so too does your linking power.

The HubPages Linking Tool

HubPages offers a very useful linking tool. This tool gives you suggestions to the best hubs to link to. Link to other hubs and you boost your hub karma. Additionally, this linking strategy can also motivate others to link back to you. Thus, linking can generate traffic and ultimately it can help boost your profits.

When choosing to link to other hubs, keep your readers and audience in mind. Only link to other hubs that are relevant and valuable. For example, if you have a hub page about dog training, linking to a hub that talks about how to change your car’s oil filter just doesn’t make sense. It’s not relevant or helpful to your reader. However, a link to a hub page about training tools and devices would be relevant and helpful.

What about Back Linking?

Many people use HubPages to link to their existing businesses. They use it, or try to use it, as a promotional tool. HubPages has very strict rules about self-promotion and will penalize you if you’re using your hub to promote another site.

However, you can use other sites to promote your hub page. For example, you can link to your hub page from your Facebook or Twitter account. You can also link to your hub from your blog or website content. Again, like any incoming links, the more relevant they are to the topic being discussed, the better. And search engines love relevant links. When a hub page has many incoming links from other sites it ranks better on Google. That means more people see your hub page and you make more money.

In fact, social networking is an integral part of HubPages. Every reader has the opportunity to like on Facebook and tweet or share. You can build a community of followers on both social networking sites and HubPages, and generate positive linking karma for more traffic and more profits.
