When you’ve had the same burning passion for decades, it tells you you’re doing something you clearly love doing.

And that is exactly the way I feel about working with business owners.  

I can’t help myself.  When I chat to business people, I find I’m absorbed in their business.  Probing them about how they do what they do, how they generate business, how they progress enquiries to the sale, and about their experiences and challenges.  I love sharing my ‘pivot points of profit’ too … those often simple changes to the way most people do business that end up in a healthier profit line.  

Perhaps you’ve come across the ‘3 Ways to Grow Your Business Profits’ formula.  It is a stark reminder of how small improvements in just 3 areas of your business can literally double your profits or better.  Profit potential that has been there all along, waiting to be uncovered.

I didn’t invent the ‘formula’ by any means.  But I’ve spent twenty plus years teaching businesses how to apply it for a healthier profit line.

I spent some time with Chris and researched his background, it is a pretty amazing story, let me share it with you……

Chris Newton has been inspiring business owners on what’s possible in their business for nearly 30 years.  In 1984, he wrote the definitive ‘nuts and bolts’ guide to growing business profits, ‘The Do-it-yourself Advertising Manual’.  A first of its kind and written in plain language, brimming with practical how-to help, it immediately became a best seller, and launched him onto the international stage.  Since then, many thousands of business people around the world have avidly followed his advice through his newsletters, seminars, video training, online programmes and consulting. Chris has been approached to consult to numerous major corporations over the years, but his great love is very much small and medium business, where he gets to roll up his sleeves and help owners implement winning strategies where they really count the most.chris newton

Chris Newton is above all, a hands-on practitioner, helping business owners to produce more profit and growth through effective marketing strategies.  His hallmark is his no-hype, plain language, practical, ‘nuts and bolts’ approach that puts the power to boost profits right back into the hands of the business owner. 

Chris Newton graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Queensland, Australia, before he and his wife Sari set off around the world in 1973. After a year working in London, they backpacked for 5 months down through Africa, where Chris landed his first marketing position.  As a direct marketing copywriter in Johannesburg.  In their 14 months in South Africa, he voraciously devoured as many books of the advertising ‘greats’ as he could get his hands on, and ultimately rose to the position of head of copywriting for the country’s largest direct mail agency.  His love of ‘marketing that is proven and measurable’ had been ignited and he’s never lost the passion for it.

Returning to Australia in 1977, he was appointed marketing manager for Queensland for one of the world’s largest travel companies at that time, Jetset Tours, where his advertising campaigns were outperforming the national ad campaigns by up to 20 times in terms of leads generated. 

The point came where, like most entrepreneurially driven individuals, he succumbed to the urge to go into business for himself.  He opened his own retail food business, (and as someone without any food related experience, still wonders what he must have been thinking!) …

But getting outside his comfort zone enabled Chris to learn first hand what it’s like to deal with the challenges that confront all small business owners – working exhaustinglylong hours, innovating in ways to better serve customers, while dealing with the financial realities of paying leases, buying stock, servicing bank loans, and covering staff wages and rent. 

He readily admits that along the way, he made just about ‘every mistake in the book’ that people make in business.  But through all of this, he also discovered the deep satisfaction and exhilaration of building a business that became a successful and profitable venture. 

After nearly three years, in 1983, someone walked into his business and offered to buy it at a price he couldn’t refuse.  So he sold it … and went back to his greatest passion.  Helping other small businesses through a fledgling consulting business.

His career went into overdrive however, when he put his small business and marketing experiences into a book … the “Do-it-yourself Advertising Guide for Small Business”.  It rapidly became an international seller, with over 18,000 copies in use worldwide.

chris newtonFrom that, he launched a subscriber-based newsletter called The Results Report that gained some four thousands avid followers, which then led to the production of audio and video training programs.  His company, Results Corporation Worldwide, serves clients throughout Australia, New Zealand, North America and Asia.  A ‘partner’ office which teaches his techniques and works with his programs with small business clients in the United Kingdom has operated since 1996.

As a professional speaker, Chris Newton has been invited to speak to diverse business groups … from The Jefferson Institute in Utah, to the Academy of Chief Executives in London, the Footwear industry in New Zealand, the U.K. Garden Growers Association, Fuji Hanimex, Mitsubishi Motor Company, Mercantile Mutual, Kodak, Snap Printing, Pacific Dunlop, Davey Pumps, Westpac Bank, and at literally hundreds of small business seminars and franchise conferences. 

Above all, his passion is to take the seemingly complex topic of marketing, and make it simple … so that busy business people can apply his ideas to their business the very next day … and turn them into bigger profits.
